Book 2 of the Addie McCormick Adventures is out!  We love these adventure books for both boys and girls.  We know you will love them too.

The Secret in the Scrapbook by Leanne Lucas

The Secret in the Scrapbook by Leanne Lucas

Addie and Nick thought they had learned not to meddle in other people’s affairs. But when they meet Amy, Miss T’s live-in companion, their curiosity is peaked.
Was Amy’s father really a spy during WWII?
Why doesn’t Amy want them to see what is in her scrapbook?
Brian, Nick’s old friend, joins Addie and Nick as they seek to uncover a fifty-year old secret. But after the scrapbook is stolen, there seems no way to solve the mystery. They have to depend on the Lord to help them and have faith that He will guide them.

Leanne Lucas grew up in Central Illinois reading mysteries and exploring the countryside around her family home. She uses those memories in her stories and often names characters after people she knows and loves. Leanne now lives in Homer, Illinois with her husband, Dave. They have one grown son, Joshua.

Saving Grace by C. John Miller

I am always on the lookout for solid devotionals that can start my day and point me to Christ.  Paul Miller, who wrote A Praying Life (a favorite of mine), put together this devotional of teachings that his father, Jack Miller, taught.

Paul says of his father that the heart of his dad’s “preaching was the gospel . . . and before he preached the gospel to us, he preached it to himself…Dad was the tax collector, crying out, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’ Dad was the returning prodigal son and he was the older brother.  He was, as he loved to say, one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread! Enjoy the feast!”

Foreword by Paul Miller

Begin a Year of Grace-Filled Living Now!

The gospel changes how we live each day. That’s the premise of Saving Grace and the legacy of Jack Miller’s ministry. Founder of Serge and the New Life Presbyterian network of churches, Miller believed that Christians need to hear the gospel by faith every day, and he preached what he believed.

These 366 gospel-saturated selections from Miller’s pioneering sermons offer a fresh exploration of the everyday life of faith. With topics like forgiveness, relationships, temptation, prayer, joy, and perseverance—this daily devotional will help readers to catch Miller’s hope-filled vision for living in light of the gospel. Each daily reading is tied to a corresponding audio sermon available soon at newgrowthpress.com, providing additional resources for further reflection.

Prepare Him Room by Marty Machowski

Finding good advent books can be difficult.  Sometimes they are time consuming and overwhelming.  Often I have good intentions, but then I don’t follow through because it is already a crazy time of the year.

I am excited about this advent book because it is written by Marty Machowski.  He wrote the devotionals Long Story Short and Old Story New.  He simplifies his devotionals drawing on the importance of the Old Testament as to how it relates to the New Testament.  This advent devotional is no different.  He focuses on the prophesies of Christ and brings the Gospel story of the birth of Christ to life through fun and simple devotions that you do as a family three times a week.  We will be using this book this year, and hope that you will enjoy it too.

Stories for God’s Glory by Leah Good

I am very excited about this writing curriculum for Junior High Students.  My daughter went through the One Year Adventure Novel, which is excellent.  Leah Good, the author of Stories for God’s Glory also is a OYANer (as they call themselves).  She learned from the best and has developed an awesome curriculum for children who just are not quite ready for the One Year Adventure Novel.

Stories for God's Glory by Lean Good

Stories for God’s Glory by Lean Good

Here is some great information about the course from Leah’s website:  www.storiesforGodsglory.com.

Do you have a child who likes to make up stories but doesn’t know how to write them? Or maybe your child likes to write and would like to improve their skill. Whatever your scenario, Stories for God’s Glory is designed to teach junior high students how to write quality fictional stories that honor God.

The course is designed to be completed in one semester—about eighteen weeks. There are sixteen weeks of formal lessons as well as a bonus chapter that introduces students to a few fiction genres. If you’re nervous about teaching creative writing and story writing, don’t be. This course does not require that the teacher have prior knowledge of the subject.

Each formal lesson begins with an assignment sheet containing boxes that can be checked off as students work through the lesson. Following the assignment sheet is the text for that week. The text is the teaching portion of the curriculum. It tells students about an area of writing and gives them tips for how to implement techniques that will improve their own writing. Worksheets are located at the end of the lesson. Practice What You Learned sheets give students a chance to implement what they read about in the week’s text. Analyze a Story worksheets instruct students to read a story and answer questions designed to show them how other authors use the techniques they are learning about. Finally, Outlining Worksheets help students to organize their ideas as they plan their own stories.

Raising A Modern Day Knight by Robert Lewis

Raising a Modern Day Knight by Robert Lewis

Raising a Modern Day Knight by Robert Lewis

From the Publisher:
What does it mean to be a man? Moreover, how do you as a father instill that reality in your son? By Raising a Modern-Day Knight. The medieval custom of knighthood offers an unique approach to shaping a boy into a strong, godly man. Centuries ago, select boys went through a rigorous, years-long process of clearly defined objectives, goals, and ceremonies–with the hope of achieving knighthood. Along the way, they acquired a boldly masculine vision, an uncompromising code of conduct, and a noble cause in which to invest their lives. They were the heroes of their age.In much the same way, Raising a Modern-Day Knight will show how you, too, can confidently guide your son to the kind of authentic, biblical manhood that can change out world. Complete with ceremony ideas to celebrate accomplishments and ingrain them in the mind of a knight-in-training, this resource is as insightful as it is practical in raising a boy to be a chivalrous, godly man.
