Lamplighter ALOE A Lady of England

Charlotte Maria Tucker, an English author, who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E.
(a Lady of England), was born on May 8, 1821 , the daughter of Henry St George Tucker, a distinguished official of the East India Company. Hidden Hand is one of our favorite book of Lamplighter’s, although there are many that compete with first place.  And two of those that tie for first place are Ishmael and Self-Raised.  Our family has read Hidden Hand twice just because it is so good, and they sat on the edge of their seats the second time even though they knew the outcome.  This is one of those books that you are completely involved with through laughter, suspense, surprise, and tears.  What a wonderful time we have had reading it–even my 7 year old loves it!

Ishmael captivated me so much that I stayed up until 2 am in the morning to finish it.  Unfortunately, I did not realize that Self-Raised was part 2 so was I surprised when I didn’t actually find out what happened!  Then I had to read Self-Raised, but was it worth it!  Phenomenal Writing!

Lamplighter Amy LeFeuvre

Amy LeFeuvre is one of our favorite authors.  Teddy’s Button is a great story to start your family reading together.  Both boys and girls will love the story (along with the parents, of course).  As Teddy so proudly displays his button that was from his father’s uniform who died in the war, the new little girl in town shows much contempt for him and his “story.”  Infuriated, Teddy feels hatred for her in his heart.  The pastor, a wise man of God, counsels Teddy on how to be a soldier for Christ.  As God works in Teddy’s heart, those around him see Christ begin to shine through Teddy in his successes and his failures.
